PHATE (Phage Therapy Network at KI) brings together researchers, clinicians and industry partners who want to turn phage biology into actionable antimicrobial strategies. The network is hosted at Karolinska Institutet, and you can also find our official KI page here:

The Fossati Lab helps coordinate the network and runs many of the community activities.

What we do

We connect groups across basic science, clinical microbiology and biotech to build capacity for phage research and phage therapy in Sweden. We share protocols, datasets and analysis resources to make collaboration faster and more reproducible. We support trainees who want to combine wet-lab, proteomics, computational analysis and engineering approaches in phage work.

Events & community

  • PHATE 2026 conference (Stockholm) — a two-day meeting on phage therapy, host–pathogen biology and translational pipelines.
  • Speaker series — monthly invited talks from groups working in phage biology, AMR, computational virology and systems microbiology.
  • Workshops — hands-on sessions for phage isolation, sequencing and genome annotation, built for skill sharing and cross-lab exchange.
  • Movie evenings — informal gatherings built around documentaries about AMR and phage therapy that spark discussion and keep the community connected.

Stay in touch

Membership is open to anyone working in phage biology, AMR, microbiology or related fields.

  • Join the mailing list: email andrea.fossati@scilifelab.se with subject “PHATE mailing list”.
  • Slack workspace invitations are shared through the mailing list (ask if you need a direct link).
  • Event announcements also appear on the News page.

For clinicians and industry

We support phage susceptibility testing, assay design and the development of phage–antibiotic combination strategies that can be slotted directly into clinical decision making or early product pipelines. We can also help connect you to the appropriate teams in Sweden or internationally for specific translational projects.
